AGARTALA: A delegation representing surrendered militants met the Governor on Wednesday and placed before him a set of demands directed at the central government, seeking effective implementation of the peace accord signed with the state.
The delegation alleged that around 90 per cent of the surrendered members continue to be deprived of government assistance and are living in uncertainty, and further claimed that the special economic development package promised under the agreement has not been launched.
The representatives also raised concerns over the composition of key monitoring bodies, pointing out that committees constituted under Clause 26 of the accord, including the Empowered Implementation and Monitoring Committee, State Level Executive Committee and Joint Working Group Committee, do not include representatives of NLFT (ORI) and All Tripura Tiger Force returnees, which they described as a breach of the accord’s provisions.
In their memorandum, the organisation demanded the inclusion of NLFT and ATTF representatives in all implementation committees and sought recognition of NLFT (ORI) returnee leaders as Governor-nominated Members of the District Council in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.
The delegation also called for time-bound implementation of all provisions of the peace accord and allocation of land to landless Tiprasa families.
The Governor is learnt to have assured the delegation that their concerns would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.
