AGARTALA: Tripura organised its first-ever three-day workshop on the central government’s new Labour Codes at Sonartari Guest House, bringing together officials from the state’s Labour Department for specialised training on the upcoming legislative changes.
The workshop saw participation from experts drawn from several states, including Mizoram and Manipur, who shared their insights and expertise with officers associated with the Tripura Labour Department over the course of the three-day programme.
Speaking on the significance of the training, State Labour Department Joint Director Binoy Bhushan Das said the workshop would equip officers with a clearer understanding of the new Labour Codes, making it considerably easier for them to work in the interest of labourers going forward.
The new Labour Codes, framed by the central government, aim to consolidate and simplify numerous existing labour laws into a streamlined framework covering wages, industrial relations, social security, and occupational safety. Their implementation is expected to bring significant changes to how labour departments across states function, making training programmes such as this one crucial for officers tasked with enforcement.
By bringing in experts from neighbouring states, the workshop also provided an opportunity for cross-state exchange of experience and best practices in labour administration, officials said.
The training is expected to strengthen the state Labour Department’s capacity to implement the new codes effectively once they come into force, ensuring officers are well-prepared to address issues related to worker welfare in the changing regulatory landscape.
