Google has announced a major expansion of AI Mode, allowing users to connect directly with popular third‑party apps such as Canva, YouTube, and Instacart from within the conversational search experience. The update marks Google’s biggest push yet to transform AI Mode from a simple query‑answering tool into a task‑completion assistant capable of handling planning, shopping, content creation and productivity workflows.
The company says AI Mode can now perform actions inside these apps — for example, helping users design graphics in Canva, manage shopping lists or place orders through Instacart, and search or organise content on YouTube — without leaving Google Search. The goal is to make AI Mode a central hub for everyday digital tasks, mirroring capabilities offered by competitors like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude, which already support multi‑app interactions.
Google confirmed the feature is rolling out to users in the United States, with more partner apps expected soon. The company is working on expanding integrations to additional services, aiming to make AI Mode a seamless assistant across entertainment, productivity, shopping and creative tools.
The update builds on capabilities introduced at Google I/O, where users were first allowed to link third‑party apps to the Gemini app for task execution. Supported integrations now include Canva, with more creative and productivity apps planned for future releases.
By extending AI Mode beyond search, Google is positioning its AI ecosystem as a more powerful, interactive assistant that can help users complete multi‑step tasks — from designing social media posts to planning meals or organising video playlists — all through conversational prompts.
