Mandai-Baldum Road Left in Ruins Despite Repeated Poll Promises

MANDAI: A road built during the Left Front regime, connecting Mandai to Baldum under Mandai Bazar Assembly Constituency No. 11, has fallen into a state of severe disrepair due to years of neglect, with several stretches reportedly collapsing into an adjoining stream.

Local residents alleged that despite the road’s poor condition, no repair work has been undertaken for a long time. They further claimed that funds meant for the road’s maintenance have allegedly been sanctioned since the Left Front era, but the whereabouts of that money remain unknown.

Villagers said that election after election, MLA Swapna Debbarma and MDC Jagadish Debbarma sought votes on the promise of repairing the road, but no tangible work followed. Frustrated by the continued neglect, locals spoke to the media demanding urgent repair of the stretch.

Some residents also alleged that the MLA has failed to execute any developmental work in the constituency, though these claims could not be independently verified.
