SALEMA: Local residents staged a massive road blockade at Lal Debendra Para on Monday, protesting the deplorable condition of the vital Rakhaltali-Jayanti Bazar road.
The agitators accused the local Panchayat Pradhan, Nishikanta Debnath, of persistent stalling tactics and complete negligence regarding local infrastructure. Commuters expressed intense frustration over the heavily damaged stretch, which has turned accident-prone and riddled with massive potholes, severely disrupting daily transit and emergency services.
Frustrated by administrative apathy, the general public halted traffic for hours, raising slogans against the local authority. Demonstrators emphasized that despite repeated applications for road restoration, the administration only offered empty promises. They demanded an immediate, concrete timeline for road work, warning of larger, indefinite protests if their demands are ignored.
The blockade caused massive traffic snarls, leaving numerous vehicles stranded. Police personnel and civil officials rushed to the spot to pacify the agitators. The demonstration was eventually lifted after authorities intervened, offering an assurance to initiate repair work within a definitive timeframe.
