Two Temples Burgled Same Night in Jolaibari, Locals Blame Police Inaction

Jolaibari:Two temples in Jolaibari were allegedly burgled on the same night on Saturday, with thieves breaking open donation boxes at the Shani Mandir in Jolaibari Bazar and a Kali Mandir in West Jolaibari, sparking anger among residents over recurring theft in the area.

CCTV footage from a nearby shop reportedly showed two youths involved in the theft at the Shani Mandir premises. Locals informed Jolaibari Fari police station on Sunday morning after discovering the burglary. Police visited the site but reportedly left without registering significant progress on the case, residents alleged.

A section of local residents alleged that the area has witnessed a rising trend of thefts due to alleged inaction by the local police, though these claims remain unverified. Some residents further alleged, without providing evidence, that police protection was being extended to those involved in theft and drug-related activities in the locality — an allegation this newspaper could not independently confirm.

Residents have urged the police administration to take firm action to identify and apprehend those responsible.
