Santirbazar:The special census of the Reang (Bru) Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) has resumed across eight districts of Tripura, undertaken by the PVTG Department of the Government of India, putting an end to prolonged speculation over the exercise.

The census is being conducted in coordination with the Bru Sangrangma Moth, BSKO, YBA, and BSM, community organisations representing the Reang population.

Addressing a press conference at Birchandra Manu area in Santirbazar on Sunday, the organisation’s general secretary Khanaram Reang said a target has been set to complete the census within the next 15 days.

He appealed to all Reang families across the state to cooperate with enumerators and provide accurate information to ensure the exercise is completed successfully and without discrepancies.

The census is expected to have significant implications for welfare schemes and developmental planning targeted at the Reang community, officials indicated.
