SONAMURA: In a brazen act of theft, an out-of-state youth allegedly made off with money from a donation box at a shrine within the Sonamura police station premises, before being caught by locals at Melaghar Rajghat.
According to reports, the accused reportedly broke open or tampered with the donation box associated with the Manasa shrine located inside the police station compound and fled with the cash. Alert members of the public, acting swiftly, allegedly chased down and apprehended the youth at Melaghar Rajghat, handing him over to police.
The incident has raised eyebrows given its audacious nature, with the theft reportedly taking place virtually under the nose of law enforcement personnel. Locals expressed shock that such a crime could occur within police station premises itself.
The identity of the accused, said to be from outside the state, has not been officially confirmed, nor has the exact amount stolen been disclosed by authorities. Police are yet to issue a formal statement on the arrest or the case registered in connection with the incident.
