AGARTALA: Family members of Special Police Officers (SPOs) in Tripura raised their voice on Friday against long-standing grievances of low allowances, limited benefits, and uncertain career prospects, submitting a 10-point charter of demands to the police administration.
Under the banner of the All Tripura SPO Family Welfare Association, members handed over a deputation at the office of the Director General of Police (DGP). With the DGP absent at the time, the memorandum was received by the DIG (Headquarters) on his behalf.
The primary demands centre on regularisation of SPOs’ jobs and ensuring service benefits equivalent to those enjoyed by regular police personnel. Family members alleged that SPOs have for years been made to work under police-equivalent duties and risks, despite receiving significantly lower pay and being denied the job security afforded to regular force members.
The association reportedly urged the administration to consider the 10-point charter sympathetically, warning that continued neglect of SPOs’ welfare could affect morale within the force. No official response has been issued by the DGP’s office so far.
Police authorities are expected to review the memorandum in the coming days.
