Agartala:Amarpur Birganj police achieved a significant breakthrough after arresting two individuals in connection with a gold chain-snatching incident that had sparked panic in the area.
The case originated two days earlier when a youth allegedly snatched a gold chain from a woman traveling in a toto on the Amarpur-Udaipur road near Gandhari area before fleeing into nearby forest.
Following the victim’s complaint at Maharani police outpost, the matter was referred to Amarpur Birganj police station, which traced the accused to Shankarpalli area of Amarpur town. Under the supervision of police officer Nirmal Das, authorities arrested the accused late Sunday night from Udaipur Tulamura area, recovering the stolen gold chain and cash in his possession.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to selling the chain for approximately Rs. 1,27,000 to another individual in Tulamura. Police subsequently arrested the buyer as well, bringing both accused to the station for questioning.
Cases have been registered against both individuals, with investigation underway to determine if a larger organized network is involved in similar crimes.
The incident had caused considerable alarm among residents, as chain-snatching along this route is uncommon, highlighting rising concerns over street crime in the region.
