BAIKHORA (Shantir Bazar): The Baikhora Primary Health Centre in Shantir Bazar subdivision remained without electricity for more than two hours on Sunday, leaving patients and their attendants to endure severe hardship amid intense heat.
Patients undergoing treatment at the facility — ranging from young children to elderly individuals, along with mothers in the maternity ward — were among the worst affected by the prolonged outage. Attendants said the situation grew increasingly difficult as the heat intensified inside the hospital premises.
Adding to the distress, a relative of a patient alleged that while patients suffered in the heat, fans in the rooms used by doctors and nursing staff continued running on solar power. The claim could not be independently verified.
The hospital has also reportedly been grappling with a drinking water shortage, further compounding difficulties for those inside.
Attendants said the matter was brought to the attention of the hospital’s in-charge, Dr. Ruby Halder, but no corrective action followed. A visibly upset relative of a patient voiced his frustration before the media, questioning the lack of response from hospital authorities.
The incident has raised concerns over patient welfare at the health centre, with residents now awaiting intervention from the Health Department to restore power and address the water crisis.
