Unakoti: A man was critically injured after being attacked with a sharp machete late at night in Ward No. 1 of Saidarpar, under Fatikroy Assembly constituency in Unakoti district, with police registering a case and launching a search for the accused, who remains absconding.
The victim, identified as Pradip Das, was rushed to Fatikroy Hospital in a serious condition following the attack and later shifted to Unakoti District Hospital for further treatment.
According to the complaint, the attack stemmed from a dispute over a political matter that had allegedly turned into an altercation earlier. Reports allege that on the night of June 30, one Shiprendu Das lay in wait and launched a sudden, unprovoked assault on Pradip Das using a machete. Das was rescued in a critically injured state and rushed for medical treatment. Police recovered the weapon allegedly used in the attack from the spot and have taken it into custody as evidence.
Speaking to reporters, the victim’s wife, Gitanjali Biswas, alleged that the attack was the result of longstanding personal enmity between the two families, rather than a spontaneous incident.
A case has been registered at Fatikroy Police Station under number Fatikroy/PS/23, and police have launched an investigation into the matter. However, the accused remained at large at the time of filing this report, despite the ongoing probe.
The victim’s family has demanded the swift arrest of the accused, expressing concern over the delay and calling for stronger police action to ensure justice.
Local residents in the area have also expressed alarm over the incident, calling for increased vigilance and patrolling to prevent similar attacks in the locality.
