AGARTALA: BJP Chief Spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty, addressing a press conference held by the party’s Pradesh Committee on the occasion of National Doctors’ Day on Thursday, said the government has taken landmark decisions towards improving the state’s health services and infrastructure.
Extending greetings on the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, Chakraborty said medicine is not merely a profession but a responsibility. He highlighted various initiatives undertaken jointly by the state and central governments, including developments related to the Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital, asserting that the state would emerge as a medical hub within the next few years.
Chakraborty also defended the government’s recent decision to discontinue private practice by doctors at GBP Hospital, asserting that the move was aimed at the welfare of patients and would be implemented with the cooperation of doctors.
Responding to criticism over the decision, Chakraborty alleged that a section of people was attempting to mislead the public and create confusion, and urged citizens not to fall for such misinformation.
The press conference was also attended by Media In-Charge Sunit Sarkar and Pradesh Secretary Mihir Sarkar.
