AGARTALA: The Tripura Legislative Assembly celebrated its 63rd Foundation Day on Wednesday at the Assembly lobby, with Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu and Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury addressing the gathering on the importance of preserving democratic traditions, constitutional values and the Assembly’s parliamentary legacy.
The programme was attended by legislators across party lines, former Speakers, former lawmakers, and Assembly officials and staff members.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Nallu described the Legislative Assembly as the highest democratic institution of the state, noting its crucial role in representing the aspirations of the people since its inception in 1963. He urged legislators to uphold the dignity of the House through meaningful discussions and adherence to constitutional principles.
Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury said the day was not merely ceremonial but an occasion to remember the struggles that laid the foundation of democracy in Tripura, tracing the Assembly’s roots to the erstwhile princely state’s democratic movements and the former Tripura Territorial Council. He urged lawmakers to uphold high standards of parliamentary debate, accountability and people-centric governance.
