AGARTALA, July 1: GB Hospital witnessed an overwhelming rush of patients on Tuesday amid a sudden shortage of doctors, with the Gynaecology OPD reportedly recording its highest footfall in recent times, sources said.
Pregnant women were seen standing in long queues under the heat for extended periods, causing considerable distress to both patients and their accompanying family members, eyewitnesses said.
According to relatives of patients, the crowding at the hospital is understandable given the circumstances, but stressed that adequate infrastructure and staffing are essential to ensure services keep pace with patient inflow.
Sources further alleged that several patients fell ill while waiting in the queue, a claim corroborated by eyewitnesses present at the scene.
With private chambers of doctors reportedly shut, patients said they were left with no option but to rush to GB Hospital for treatment, further straining the already stretched OPD services.
