SONAMURA: A tragic case of patricide has rocked the North Rangamura area under Sonamura subdivision, after a man allegedly beat his father to death with a stick following a domestic altercation on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Oyakhi Roy Tripura, reportedly died on the spot after being struck on the chest by his son, Samir Tripura, during a violent confrontation at their home. According to police and local sources, the accused had long been addicted to intoxicants and would frequently quarrel with and assault his father while under the influence. Saturday’s incident, residents say, followed the same pattern, but this time ended in tragedy.
On being alerted, police from Jatrapur police station rushed to the scene, and SDPO Sashi Mohan Debbarma subsequently visited the spot to assess the situation. The accused was swiftly arrested and is currently lodged in police custody at Jatrapur police station.
The body of the deceased has been sent to the morgue at Kanthalia Social Health Centre for post-mortem examination, with police confirming a formal investigation is now underway to ascertain the complete sequence of events.
The incident has reignited concern among sections of local residents over the rising problem of substance addiction in the hill areas of Tripura, with many pointing to a pattern of domestic violence linked to intoxicant abuse in the region.
