AGARTALA: The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) today carried out a fresh eviction drive in the city, targeting encroachments at Lake Chowmuhani Market, Shakuntala Road, and Harigangabasak Road.
The drive, conducted as part of the corporation’s ongoing efforts to clear unauthorised structures and reclaim public spaces, saw civic officials remove illegal encroachments that had reportedly been obstructing roads and footpaths in the affected areas.
Local shopkeepers and vendors who had set up structures along the roadside were among those affected by the operation. Civic authorities reportedly carried out the drive with adequate police assistance to ensure the eviction proceeded without untoward incidents.
This is not the first such operation in the area, with the AMC having undertaken similar eviction drives in the past to address persistent encroachment issues across the city. Officials reiterated that such drives would continue periodically to keep roads and markets free from unauthorised occupation.
Residents and commuters have, on multiple occasions, raised concerns over congestion caused by encroachments in busy commercial areas such as Lake Chowmuhani, prompting repeated civic action.
