AGARTALA: In a major push to strengthen Tripura’s dairy sector, the State Government on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and the Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited to implement the ambitious White Revolution 2.0 programme.
The agreement, signed at Conference Hall No. 2 of the State Secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, aims to prepare a Comprehensive Cooperative Dairy Development Plan (CCDDP) to accelerate dairy development across the state.
The MoU was signed by Deepa D. Nair, Secretary, Animal Resources Development Department, on behalf of the State Government; Dr. Sabyasachi Roy, Regional Head (Northeast), NDDB; and Ratan Ghosh, Chairman, Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha said the government is taking steps to boost milk production and make livestock rearers financially self-reliant, adding that the dairy sector holds immense potential to raise farmers’ incomes and strengthen the rural economy. Drawing inspiration from Gujarat’s dairy success, he expressed confidence that Tripura could emerge as a leading dairy-producing state.
Animal Resources Development Minister Sudhangshu Das termed the MoU a landmark initiative that would generate sustainable livelihoods, while Cooperation Minister Shuklacharan Noatia underlined the cooperative sector’s transformation under the present government and its role in realising the vision of “Viksit Bharat.”
NDDB Chairman Dr. Meenesh Shah and Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Chairman Ratan Ghosh spoke about plans to expand cooperative-based dairy production and improve market access and welfare measures for farmers.
Senior officials present included Cooperation Department Secretary Tapas Roy, Animal Resources Development Department Director Dr. Neeraj Kumar Chanchal, along with NDDB representatives and Union board members.
The initiative is expected to boost milk production, strengthen cooperative institutions, and create sustainable livelihoods for thousands of dairy farmers across Tripura.
