Kailashahar: The district-wide “Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026” was officially launched on Friday in Unakoti district under the initiative of the District Health and Family Welfare Department, aimed at protecting children under five from diarrhoea and reducing child mortality from the disease to zero.
Zilla Parishad Chairman Amalendu Das inaugurated the programme through lamp-lighting at Kailashahar Circuit House, attended by Kailashahar Municipal Council Chairperson Chapala Rani Debroy, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shirshendu Chakma, subdivisional health officers, the district’s Nodal Officer, along with medical officers, health workers, and ASHA workers from across the district.
Das emphasised that despite being preventable, diarrhoea often turns fatal due to lack of awareness, and stressed reaching ORS and zinc tablets to every household through coordinated efforts of the health department, panchayats, and local representatives. Chairperson Debroy highlighted contaminated water as the primary cause, urging residents to boil drinking water and teach children proper handwashing habits.
The campaign will run till July 31, 2026, with ‘ORS-Zinc Corners’ set up at all health facilities. ASHA workers will conduct door-to-door demonstrations on ORS preparation and distribute packets, while schools and anganwadi centres will host handwashing awareness sessions across the district.
