Teacher Sentenced to 20 Years for Raping, Blackmailing Minor Student in Udaipur

Udaipur: A Special Judicial Court here on Friday sentenced a private tutor, Adhir Chandra Das, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor student and subsequently blackmailing her using recorded video footage of the assault.

Justice Ravi Dhaiya convicted the accused under Section 6 of the POCSO Act and Section 376(2)(n) of the IPC. Das, a resident of Rajnagar under Radhakishorepur Police Station, was a teacher at Bhagini Nivedita Higher Secondary School.

According to case details, the survivor had been taking private tuition from the accused since 2019. The court heard that he lured her to his residence, administered an intoxicating substance, and assaulted her, recording the act to threaten and coerce her into prolonged abuse, including threats against her family.

After remaining silent over safety concerns, the victim’s family lodged a complaint at Radhakishorepur Mahila Police Station in 2021. Sub-Inspector Ripita Bhattacharya investigated the case and filed the chargesheet, leading to trial involving seven witnesses.

Special POCSO lawyer Paltu Das said the prosecution had sought the strictest punishment for such a grave offence committed by an educator. The verdict has brought relief to Udaipur residents, many of whom hailed it as a strong deterrent against such crimes in society.
