Fire Breaks Out at Transformer Electric Meter at Sonamura Thakurmura; Several Areas Plunged into Darkness

Sonamura: A major fire broke out at an electric meter attached to a transformer at Dokan Chowmuhani in Thakurmura, Sonamura on Thursday night, causing significant damage to the transformer cable and leaving three to four surrounding areas without power supply for several hours.

Local residents were the first to notice the blaze and immediately alerted the Fire Service. Responding swiftly to the call, a unit of the Fire Service rushed to the spot and, working in close coordination with local residents, successfully brought the fire under control before it could spread further and cause more extensive damage to the surrounding infrastructure and properties.

The transformer cable sustained considerable damage in the fire, resulting in an immediate power disruption across several localities in the area. Residents of the affected areas were left without electricity, causing significant inconvenience, particularly during the late night hours.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be officially ascertained, though local residents and experts suspect that a short circuit or a technical fault in the electric meter or transformer may have triggered the blaze. Officials from the electricity department visited the site shortly after the incident to assess the extent of the damage and initiate steps for restoration of power supply.

The incident has once again raised concerns among residents about the condition and maintenance of electrical infrastructure in the area. Locals are urging the electricity department to carry out regular inspection and timely maintenance of transformers and associated equipment to prevent such dangerous incidents in the future.
